This product, when diluted with water and sprayed over loaded transport vehicles such as railway wagons or trucks, forms a protective crust over the materials, thereby preventing dust emissions and minimizing material loss during transit. Previous applications of similar solutions have demonstrated significant reductions in material loss, improving both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Implementing the proposed solution incurs initial costs associated with procuring the product and necessary equipment for application. However, these costs are offset by the potential benefits. For example, consider a mining operation with 6500 wagons per month and up to 2% potential material loss due to dust emissions. This translates to an annual loss exceeding USD 25,000,000.00. By implementing the proposed solution, even a conservative estimate of a 50% reduction in material loss could result in annual savings exceeding USD 10,000,000.00. Thus, the investment in dust mitigation technologies proves financially viable in the long run.
Prior to full-scale implementation, a trial of the proposed solution is recommended to assess its effectiveness in real-world conditions. The trial would involve applying the product to a selected number of transport vehicles over a specified period, monitoring dust emissions and material loss during transit, and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of the solution. The findings from the trial would inform decision-making regarding the wider adoption of dust mitigation measures across the mining operation.
